Support Camp

Camp McKee on a beautiful day

Hundreds of Scouts use Camp McKee every year to experience the outdoors and learn more about Scouting and about themselves. The Scouts reap the benefits, but it is the efforts and gifts of dedicated volunteers and people who care deeply about camp which makes this possible. To all who have given time, talent, or treasure to support Camp McKee's efforts to serve youth, a big thank you from the camp and from the Blue Grass Council!

Ranger Wish List

In order to operate successfully, Camp McKee needs vehicles and equipment. Below is a list of Camp Ranger Ken Green's crucial equipment needs. Keep in mind that donations to camp are tax-deductible.

Gas Powered Golf Carts

We need at least 2 more Golf Carts. They need to be in good enough condition to run for a few years. ATVs such as a Kawasaki Mule, John Deere Gator, or Polaris Ranger would be even better.

3/4 Ton Truck

4 wheel drive would be nice, but something that will serve dependably is much more important. We would be using it to tow our flatbed trailer to events such as the KCA camporee 2 hours away. Creature comforts such as air conditioning would be nice, but again not necessary.

Gas Powered Log Splitter

A great big thanks to Robert Todd for the donation of a new 27 ton wood splitter!

Adopt a Campsite

The Adopt a Campsite program allows a pack, troop, or crew to choose a campsite or other building on camp and provide service to improve the facility so that that unit, and all the other Scouts who will use it, have a better camping experience. In return, the adopting unit receives perks like using the facility for free three times per year (subject to district/council event schedule and the facility selected) and priority registration for summer camp.

Since the program was started, adopting units have made many significant improvements to the camp: for example, Campsite 3 now has a barbecue grill and Campsite 12 has a permanent pavilion. Many of the campsites and buildings around camp have been adopted, but there are still campsites and buildings available for adoption! Click here to find out more about the benefits and responsibilities involved, and click here to apply to adopt a campsite.

Service Projects

Help make camp better for hundreds of Scouts—and earn service hours for rank advancement, school, or community outreach at the same time! McKee is always in need of people who want to tackle projects to improve the camp facilities, which directly benefits Scouts during summer camp and the off-season. Past projects have included reconstructing trails, painting camp buildings, building a bridge to our island, and more.

Below is a short list of needed projects, and a full worklist can be found by clicking here. Before doing any project, please make sure to check with Ranger Ken Green and coordinate your efforts with him. This is very important to ensure that you have the necessary resources and that your work will fulfill the requirements that camp needs.

  • Paint Administration Building, Dan Beard Shelter, Handicraft Building, Lee Shelter, and Reynolds Lodge.
  • Paint latrines in Campsites 2, 7, and 12.
  • Repair tent platforms and outriggers.
  • Remove invasive species along the main road and the Homestead road.
  • Finish the bathroom renovation in Cooks Cabin.
  • Build canoe and kayak racks.
  • Build a permanent shelter next to the climbing tower.
  • Build a latrine in the Adirondack Shelter area.
  • Build a new storage facility to replace the existing semi trailer.
